Consulting interview preparation FAQs
The questions candidates ask most often before starting their preparation.
Who is Quick Prep for?
Candidates preparing for management consulting interviews, with a particular focus on people targeting McKinsey, BCG, and Bain. That includes undergraduates, MBA candidates, and experienced hires moving across from industry.
What is the difference between a case interview and a fit interview?
A case interview tests structured problem solving on a live business problem. A fit interview tests whether your experience, motivation, and working style match the firm. Most rounds include both, and firms weight them roughly equally.
How long should I prepare for?
Most candidates need eight to twelve weeks of consistent practice. The variable is not raw ability but reps: how many live cases you have run out loud with a partner who gives you real feedback.
Do I need a business background?
No. Firms recruit from every discipline. What you do need is comfort with numbers, the discipline to structure a problem before analysing it, and enough business vocabulary to talk about revenue, cost, and competitive dynamics.
How many practice cases should I do?
As a rough benchmark, thirty to fifty live cases before a first round. Quality matters more than volume: a case you debrief properly is worth several you rush through.
What does a session with Quick Prep involve?
A live case run end to end, then a structured debrief covering your structure, your maths, your communication, and your synthesis, with specific things to fix before the next one.
